Summer has officially come to an end and our river-floating days are behind us, but that means nothing in this town. Missoula is packed new adventures and activities regardless of the weather, so we put together 6 of our favorites ideas for a rainy day in Missoula.
Wander through art exhibits
The stereotypical image of Missoula involves rolling hills, craft beer and farmer’s markets – but did you know about our art scene? Missoula Art Museum sits right downtown and offers free admission to their vast collection of art relevant to the community, state and region.
If you happen to find yourself in Missoula on the first friday of the month, you’re in luck. The town is alive with art openings in museums, retail stores, coffee shops, and art galleries.
Try an Oula dance class at Oula Fitness
Missoula is an active community, rain or shine. Drop in for an Oula fitness class and enjoy an hour of playful, rejuvenating, and downright sweaty dance workout. We suggest taking one of their morning classes and feeling the benefits of Oula throughout the rest of your day
Find your new favorite microbrew
It’s more than a beer in Missoula – it’s a culture. Montana ranks 2nd in the number of breweries per capita, and Missoula locals take pride in that. We think a rainy day is the perfect excuse to grab a flight and find your new go-to brew. Hint: Missoula’s newest brewery, Conflux, is less than a 15 minute walk from your room at the Comfort Inn.
Check out the Insectarium and Butterfly House
Despite it’s convenient location downtown, many don’t know about Missoula’s Insectarium and Butterfly House. 18 terrariums and aquariums hold live arthropods, and their calendar is full of fun events and workshops for the whole family.
Get tickets for a Griz game
Basketball and volleyball seasons are the perfect time to cozy up and head to campus for some local Griz-fueled fun. If you find yourself in Missoula on a rainy day but you’re still looking for action, we suggest checking the schedule for the next home game.
Find a show at the Wilma, Top Hat or Roxy
For a town of just 70,000 people, Missoula sure does deliver when it comes to live music and theater. Between the Wilma and Top Hat you’re bound to find a hot show and cool drink, while the Roxy has a constant rotation of cinematic and cultural events. Be sure to mention the promo code LGRZTX to get 15% off your stay.
Take a drive to the National Bison Range
Just because it’s a rainy day doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. Located a short 45 minute drive north of town sits the National Bison Range. For a small fee you can drive the scenic loop through the preserve, where you will most likely see bison, deer, and (if you’re lucky) a black bear. Some roads are seasonal, so be sure to check before taking off.
